Here at New Mother New Baby we offer Lactation Consultations everyday. We want every mom to be empowered to reach her own breastfeeding goals. We almost always have at least one lactation consultant in the store at all times. Many Obstetricians and Pediatricians in the area refer to New Mother New Baby for their patients. Many families come from near and far to see our highly experienced lactation consultants. Lactation Consultants from all area hospitals refer patients here so their patients can receive expert lactation services and products all in one location with easy parking and easy access.

Q: How do I know if I need a Lactation Consultation?

A: The truth is, most women would probably feel much more confident if they came in for a lactation consultation, especially the first time around. Many of our moms who have seen us with their first baby find it so helpful, they come in with baby #2 as well! We find that all new moms have questions regarding if their baby or babies are getting enough to eat or how to feel better if they are sore. Lactation Consultants are baby experts and can offer a wealth of information about breastfeeding as well as normal parental expectations. If you are wondering if you would benefit from a lactation consultation, give us a call and we can trouble shoot with you over the phone and help you determine if you should come in.

Q: What should I bring to the consult?

A: It is best to bring your baby when he/she is hungry. Bring a couple burp cloths, a couple light receiving blankets, your diaper bag, some pumped milk if you have some, and your pump parts if you have those.

Q: I live far away or in another state. Do you do phone consultations and would I benefit from a phone consult?

A: We really encourage an in person consult with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, however we know some of you may live in rural areas and may not have access to Lactation Services. If so, by all means, schedule a phone consult. We have helped thousands of women in person and over the phone.

Q; How much is a Lactation Consultation?

A: Lactation Consultations in our store are $195.00 and $225.00 for twins for a full consult. Depending on the issue, rates may vary. We also have lactation consultants that will do home visits in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The home visit rate is $225.00 and $250.00 for twins and multiples.

Q: Will insurance cover my lactation consultation?

A: We will give you a superbill at the end of your consultation which you can submit to your insurance company. Many times insurance will cover the consult depending on your plan, but we cannot guarantee payment. Payment is due at time of visit.

Q: How much is a phone consult?

A: Phone consults are $95.00 per hour and $50.00 for 30 minutes.

About three years ago I found myself living in the Chicagoland area with a newborn and no mommy friends! We had moved to the area for my husband's job and both of our families lived in Louisiana. Luckily, I stumbled upon New Mother New Baby when I sought out Gail for lactation help. She not only helped me with nursing, but introduced me to her store which turned out to be exactly what I needed! I joined a mommy and me group and it was SO therapeutic! All the moms had babies around my son's age and were dealing with the same issues I was facing... feeding questions, sleeping questions, fussiness, etc. I had no idea how badly I needed to connect to other mothers! The class environment was welcoming and relaxed. You could bottle feed or breast feed your baby during the class, change a diaper, etc. This made it easy for a new mother like myself to get out the house without having to worry about things like feedings and diapers changes in a public area. Gail,

I wanted to thank you for your support during and after my lactation consultation. This is my second child. I used a lactation consultant during my first and was able to breastfeed / pump for a full year with minimal supplementation. Knowing how hard breastfeeding can be and knowing how much lactation consultation can help, I knew that I must have a consult with my second child if just to reinforce that everything was good. But, in the couple of days from his birth, I also knew that I was having a hard time latching him on. Even though I "should" remember from the first, it is so different with a newborn and I was stressed just from those first couple days of nursing. During our consult, I learned a new technique for latching him that honestly had immediate results. I felt more relaxed latching him on and it made the whole process much more peaceful and enjoyable for everyone. And I healed within a couple of days where I no longer showed any signs of latching problems that I had initially experienced.

He is growing wonderfully and we both have the process down. It really helped to be reminded of the basics for breastfeeding and having someone watch what I was doing right and wrong. And learning a new way to latch was fantastic and a lifesaver.

As a working mom, I also appreciated your advice on pumping and the value of the different types of pumps (including the hospital grade rentals).

In general, your store is fantastic. I have found wonderful support from everyone whenever I come in and I enjoy all the different products I can see at your store vs. the "big baby stores".
