Month to Month Guide to Prepare for your Baby
There are many classes you will want to plan for and many new things to buy! Most moms find it to be a bit overwhelming. We are here to ease the process and make this easy and fun too!
Week 8 - Time to get your pregnancy journal! This is a good time to start making your own timeline. You will need to choose a pediatrician, decorate baby's room, and start mentally planning for you new addition!
Week 12 - This is a great time to start your prentatal yoga classes. It is also a good time to start reading some books on pregnancy and what to expect in the months ahead.
Week 16 - Great time to get your first pair of maternity jeans or pants. Things may feel like they are starting to feel a little snug! For work, we love the "once on never off" black pants by Boob®. They also make a great black skirt which is a great staple for your wardrobe.
Week 20 - This is a good time to come in and started with your gift registry. Many moms are overwhelmed walking through the big box stores. Make an appointment and we are happy to walk you through our store and get you all set up with everything you need. Since we work with so many new moms and run new mom groups, we really know what is useful, new, safe and must haves! So many new moms and dads are grateful as we have taken the stress out of this process.
Week 24 - Tweak your registry. This is also a good time to pick up "The Baby Book". This is one of our favorite books and owning ths book is like having a pediatrician in your house with you! Dr. Sears is a pediatrician and his books are awesome. Read the first chapter. I also suggest the Vaccine Book and I love the Milk Memos which is about Breastfeeding and going back to work.
Week 28 - This is a good time to take your breastfeeding class. Yes, we always encourage dad go to this class too! After all, he is going to be your coach. He is the one who will be there with you at 2AM! This is a good time to take your Infant CPR class too.
Week 32 - This is a great time for you and your partner to take "Newborn Basics". Get familiar with what is normal and some of the new recommendations. "Daddy Boot Camp" Class for the dad to be is a great class to prepare dad for fatherhood. For mom, our "Yoga for Birth" Class is a great class to get your ready for your upcoming delivery while getting some yoga relaxation too. Another great class for the mom to be and her mom is "My daughter is having a baby! Wisdom and Wine" which is a fun bonding class that teaches the grandmother how things have changed. This is also a good time to look for your baby book. I recommend you pack this book with your hospital bag. Never is the birth of your baby so fresh in your mind as right after your delivery. Your thoughts are right there so right your birth story down right away! You will be glad you did.
Week 36- 36 weeks is a great time to get fitted for your nursing bras. Most women will be the size they are at 36 weeks gestation that they are most of the time they are breastfeeding. If you get them to late 38-40 weeks, there is a good chance your bras will be too big. Pick up a few nursing tops for when you are out and about. It makes nursing on the go a lot easier! It is also nice to find some PJ's to wear in the hospital. This is also a good time to do your "breastfeeding appointment" Our Lactation Consultant will walk you though the store and go through all the useful and important products to have on hand for when you get home with your new baby.
Week 40-Delivery time for most moms!
2-6 Weeks Postpartum: Sign up for our very popular "Starting out Right" New Mom Support Group. This class fills up fast and is one of our signature classes at New Mother New Baby. It will help you to meet new moms who are in the same life circumstance as you are. There is truly nothing like mother to mother support.
